How to apply for Overseas Voter Registration
- Persons eligible for overseas voting for Presidential elections and proportionalrepresentative National Assembly elections should submit the completed “OverseasVoter Registration Application” to overseas diplomatic missions in personduring the overseas voter registration application period (between the 150thand 60th day prior to election day) for each election.
- How to submit an application for overseas voter registration is as follows:
In person

☞ In this case, a copy of passport and copies of objections notified by the competent overseas returning officer as proof of citizenship should be attached. The original version of passport and objections notified by a overseas returning officer should be presented. We will not accept your application unless you show the original.
By a family member
- Visit overseas diplomatic missions or submit the application to officers who make the rounds.
- A family member (a spouse; a grandparent, parent, son, daughter or grandchild of the voter and his/her spouse) can submit the application for the overseas voter registration.
- Afamily member who submits the application has to turn in the copy of his/her passport.
- In this case, a copy of a family member's passport and copies of objections notified by the competent overseas returning officer as proof of citizenship should be attached. The original version of passport and objections notified by a overseas returning officer should be presented. We will not accept your application unless you show the original.
By email and mail

You must show the original when you come to vote. If there is not a photo on the objections, you have to present a photo ID.
Any voter may raise an objection, if a person who submitted the application is not a family member of a voter who applied for the registration. When the fact that the person is not a family member of the voter is confirmed, the voter will be excluded from the overseas voters list.
※ Overseas returning officers will announce the objections required to confirm the nationality of overseas voters, such as visas, permanentresidence certification, long-term stay certification, and alien registrationcards, at least by the 30th day prior to the first day of the overseas voterregistration application period.

The National Election Commission prepares the “Overseas Voters List” based on overseas voter registrations for 10 days from the 49th to the 40th day prior to the election.
- The first election in which overseas Koreans are eligible to vote is the 19th National Assembly Election to be held on April 11, 2012.
- Any voter may raise an objections, if a person who submitted the application is not a family member of a voter who applied for the registration. When the fact that the person is not a family member of the voter is confirmed, the voter will be excluded from the overseas voters list.
The Overseas Voters List is finalized on the 30th day prior to election day and takes effect on election day.
