Early Voting

Early voting refers to a system in which voters can vote at early voting stations installed in each town, township, and neighborhood during the early voting period without separate registration. This system was first implemented in the first half of 2013 for the by-elections and was implemented nationwide in the 6th National Simultaneous Local Elections in 2014 to increase voter participation by improving voter convenience.

※ In the 6th National Simultaneous Local Elections in 2014, 4,736,980 of the 41,296,228 voters voted early (11.5%).

The early voting system consists of a voter registration terminal, ballot issuing machine, identity verification machine, uninterruptible power supply, and integrated voter registration.

For reference, early voting is also implemented in foreign countries, but unlike the Republic of Korea's early voting where voters can vote anywhere in the country, voters can only vote at a designated polling station.
